D&D Creature: Canura

Last week, Dani Hartel, an artist who has done some pretty amazing work, posted up this Tweet:

It started getting Retweeted and stumbled across my feed, and I knew I had to stat up these Better Frogs for 5e, like I did for the Leopasser last year. I asked, and she gave me permission to do so, and now the canura is here. If you have any suggestions for improvement, let me know, and I’ll implement them. The general idea for use is to get a pack of them in there to move in, perhaps with a few Grungs, have some grab onto the heroes with their tongues, and have the Grungs or other canura attack.

Also known as Bounders, Amphibihounds, Frogdogs, Better Frogs, or Bog Dogs, Canura are roughly the size of a large dog.

Better Frogs. Whether built by the arcane magic of ancient wizards or evolving naturally in the swamps of the world, canura are natural predators, moving together in packs, their tenorous croaks echoing through the misty marshlands they call home. A group of canura can sneak up on unsuspecting travelers, easing through the water and bursting out at the last minute to spring an attack. Their poisonous skin makes them tricky to hold onto to subdue.

Grung Coadjutors. Canura have been known to ally with Grung, serving as pack animals, pets and guards; On occasion, they can even serve as mounts for smaller Grung, scouting ahead of hunting parties. While not particularly bright, canura can be taught many basic commands. Grung who have canura as allies have developed a natural immunity to their poison and are unaffected by it.
