Gaming Product Review: Big Book of CyberPunk Battle Mats
Back in September I reviewed the Dungeon Books of Battle Mats by Loke Battle Mats. This double-size book of amazing mats provides a huge array of terrain for your fantasy adventures. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the Big Book of Cyberpunk Battle Mats.
With my recent dive into Core Space, I’ve been playing with a lot of cyberpunk and sci-fi terrain, so now’s the perfect time to look at this fantastic book.
The book has 60 pages of a wide variety of landscapes, from warehouses to subway stations to helipads and multiple open streets. The book is spiral-bound, allowing you to lay them flat every time, or even use only half of the book for smaller scenes. Each page is highly detailed and vibrant. Neon reflects down on the streets from imagined street signs above.
The pages are all dry and wet erasable, allowing you to modify the battlefield as needed, and fit REALLY well with any other terrain you have.
One thing I really love about them is that each map evokes a unique and evocative scene. If you’re running late on your session planning for Shadow of the Beanstalk, you could quickly flip through the book to find a cool scene, and throw the players in medias res, ambushed in an alley, or racing to ground a helicopter.
If you buy multiple books they can also be combined together, in the same way you can with the Dungeon Books of Battle Mats to create even larger.
They work for miniatures games as well, perfect for a Core Space or Necromunda duel between two warring gangs. Throw down a couple of crates to add some depth to them, and you’re good to go.
I really like the set, and expect to see it deployed a lot in the future, particularly if I can ever get around to running Shadow of the Beanstalk.
Loke Battle Mats has new books coming out soon, on January 27th. Right now you can preorder Towns & Taverns Books of Battle Mats and Little Book of Battle Mats – Towns & Taverns Edition. The first is like the Dungeon Books, but for towns, making it really easy to set events all over Waterdeep, Fallcrest, and more. The second is a 6×6 book full of small locations for smaller encounters.
In addition, they have Add-On Scenery for RPG Maps – Magic Effects, Add-On Scenery for RPG Maps – War & Siege and Add-On Scenery for RPG Maps – Town Trimmings, all for preorder, which are all static-cling attachements to add more to each of your mats. The great thing about them sticking to your mat is that you can close up the book, and when you pop it open for the encounter, it’s all there, attached and ready to go.
You can order the Big Book of CyberPunk Battle Mats directly from Loke Battle Mats here. There, you can also see the listings of what’s on each page to see all the options available.
