Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game: The Return of the King Campaign

And here’s the finale. As before, you should continue to carry over from the previous films.

In Defend the Garrison (Pack 48), the forces of Minas Tirith defend a garrison against Orcs.

The Orcs sneak into Minas Tirith and attempt to assassinate Denethor in Assassinate the Steward! (Pack 57). If they succeed, Denethor is dead, and Faramir will need to remain at Minas Tirith (assuming he survived Two Towers) as Steward, so will not be able to fight in future battles.

MINAS TIRITH (Safe Haven)

The Doomed Charge (Pack 59) has Faramir and his forces attempt to reclaim Osgiliath. If Faramir is now steward, you will be playing without him.

In Shelob’s Lair (Pack 63), Frodo and Sam attempt to escape Shelob’s clutches. At this point, there isn’t really anyone you can hand the Ring off to if Sam or Frodo die, so you’ll need to be more careful.

In Treachery at Cirith Ungol (Pack 49) Sam defends Frodo from orcs at Cirith Ungol.

Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli attempt to Capture the Fleet (Pack 76). If they succeed, Corsairs of Umbar will not show up in the battle of Minas Tirith later.

The following encompass the whole Battle of Minas Tirith, beginning with Assault on Minas Tirith (Return of the King Pack), followed by  Siege of Minas Tirith (Pack 70). You’ll then play Break the Gates! (Pack 56), Defend the Walls (Pack 73), and finally, the Witch King and Theoden face off in King-Slayer (Pack 74).

MINAS TIRITH (Safe Haven)

The End of All Things (Pack 77) has Frodo and Sam at the fires of Mount Doom, while the forces of Middle Earth battle at the Black Gate. It’s a massive game, and should be the perfect culmination of the entire campaign.

As you can see, this is a much shorter campaign than the previous two films, but there’s really only two major battles of the film.

I’m looking forward to running this whole campaign. The great thing is that the campaign definitely starts off small and builds up over time into bigger and bigger battles.
