A Tale of Four Warlords
Hear me, you who dare assemble your warbands beneath the bruised skies of the Wastes.
Draw close, though the winds spit cinders and the night itself writhes against its chains. My voice is but a whisper scraped across the bones of the world, yet you must listen… for the rift has opened, and its hunger is not yet sated. I have seen it with my own failing eyes. I have watched the tundra split like rotting flesh, revealing a wound beneath reality’s skin. From that wound the Realm of Chaos bleeds freely, its vapors coiling like serpents of living shadow.
The frost around it melts not into water but into ink, running black and thick, as though the earth mourns its own undoing. And in the heart of that abyss, half-buried in the churning warp-stuff, lies Azkareth, the Blade of Unmaking.
In the new year, myself and a group of three other local players are beginning our own Tale of Four Warlords. You’ve probably seen other groups do something similar under the titles of Tale of Four Gamers, Tale of Four Generals, or something like that.
The idea is simple: Build up an army with a specific story or theme in mind.
In our case, we were all admiring the look of the new Chaos Marauders, and Justin and I thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool to build up a chaos army each, focused on a specific Chaos god?”
So we reached out to two other players and brought them onboard. One requirement is that if a unit CAN take the Mark of your god, you MUST take it.
I’ll be building up an army dedicated to Tzeentch, while the others take on another dark power. Some of us have already begun buying models. We’re only aiming for 1k points each, with the intent to make our build-up nice and slow, over the course of 6 months. In 6 months time, we’ll challenge a couple other players to bring a total of 4k points, and the four of us will battle against their armies in a massive game.
I’ve picked up the Age of Sigmar Slaves to Darkness starter box, to get a good amount of Chaos Warriors and Knights, along with a Gaunt Summoner sorcerer (naturally), and I’m steadily building up a collection of bits to make the armor of the Warriors and Knights look alive. I’ve got a friend 3d printing new helmets for me as well. For my Marauders, I only need half of the big battalion box they come with, so I’ll be finding those online.
Here’s my current list that I’m considering building toward.
137 – Exalted Champion, Shield, Mark of Tzeentch, General
160 – Exalted Sorcerer, Mark of Tzeentch, Wizard Level 2, Dark Magic, Lore Familiar
157 – 5 Chaos Knights, Mark of Tzeentch, Champion, Standard Bearer
127 – 10 Chaos Marauders, Shield, Ambushers, Skirmishers, The Cult of the Carrion Crow, Unnatural Fortitude, Marauder Headman, Standard Bearer, Musician
77 – 5 Marauder Horsemen, Cavalry Spear, Throwing Axe, The Cult of the Carrion Crow, Marauder Horsemaster
120 – Chaos Chariots, Mark of Tzeentch
219 – 9 Chosen Chaos Warriors, Full Plate Armour, Shield, Mark of Tzeentch, Champion, Standard Bearer, Musician
I’ll keep you appraised of how it goes, as we move forward!
