Song of the River Prince Theme Kits for Legend in the Mist
I’ve been thinking a lot about how Song of the River Prince might work with Legend in the Mist, and one of the first things that jumped out at me was how naturally the Riverlands fit its Theme system. The setting has always been built around who your character is, where they come from, what they care about, and the strange things that have happened to them. That makes Themes a great way to build Riverlands heroes without reducing them to a list of professions or combat roles.
So I put together 40 Riverlands Theme Kits that players can mix and match when creating characters. Some focus on trades and callings, like Riverboat Captain or Village Healer. Others are tied to the setting itself, like Marsh Warden, Favored by the River Prince, or Fey-Touched. There are also Themes built around festivals, strange fates, communities, and the little pieces of Riverlands life that help make a character feel like they actually belong there. Pick four, tweak the tags to fit your hero, and see what kind of story starts to take shape.

How these work together
The character emerges from the collision of four Themes.
For example:
Riverbend Shipwright + Midsummer Beloved + Fey-Touched + Blackthorne Agent
gives us a very different person from:
Riverbend Shipwright + Child of the Wide River + Friend to River Beasts + Winter’s Eve Hearthkeeper.
Both are shipwrights. One is tangled in romance, commerce, and dangerous fey attention. The other feels like the person everyone in their neighborhood has known since childhood. The setting is built around connection, community, journeys, and the small choices that ripple outward, rather than defining a hero mainly by what they can do in a fight.
These are starting points. Change the tags, rename the Theme, combine ideas, or pull pieces from several different kits until the character feels right. Also, be sure to grab some themes from the core rules as well. The goal is to make it easy to create someone who feels like they grew up beside these rivers, knows these roads, has heard these songs, and has probably made at least one questionable promise to something in the woods.
I’m really curious to see what kinds of heroes people build from these. Legend in the Mist gives you a lot of room to define a character through relationships, responsibilities, strange gifts, and personal history, and that feels like a natural fit for the Riverlands. Pick four Themes, follow the current, and see where the River Prince takes you.
