Our FLGS D&D Adventure

A lot has changed since I was running D&D at the shop three or four years ago. Back then, there were two tables going: My 12 person table, and another table of maybe 5. Now, the place has around 8 different tables, with 6-10 players apiece. And they also run it on Thursdays as well, with around the same number of players.

Gabe and I showed up a little before 5:30, and were introduced to the organizer, who had us join his table. I was nervous, because I was intending to go around and scope out the tables first. No other players were at his table, so I wasn’t sure how the other players would be. Our new DM informed us that the party was on a mission from Torm, and had just hit 4th level, so we sat down and got cracking on character creation.240px-BotW_Lynel_Model.png

I first helped Gabe make his own character, a Centaur Barbarian. He really wanted to play a Lynel from Legend of Zelda, who are centaurs with lion-like faces. The DM had no problem with that, so in the end, Gabe ended up with a beast of a creature with 20 Strength, a massive great-axe, and a desire for revenge against those who slaughtered his village.

I already had an idea for a character going in, and began work myself. My PC is Cassilda, a musician who found herself making a deal with an entity she didn’t know for unfettered musical abilities. Her Great Old One patron saint is The King in Yellow.

EQIGyjrVUAIkoxFShe believes she’s a bard, not realizing she’s actually a warlock. With her trusty black dog familiar at her side, she’s venturing out to seek her fortune, asked only by her patron to sing the Song of Dissonant Whispers. After getting home, I put all her information to Reroll, which is an incredibly useful app. I’ll definitely be posting more about her in the future.

I finished up my character creation just in time for the game to begin. The other players by this point had joined us, and they were really a delight. Each of the players was very gracious, and happy to welcome us in.

The characters were currently communing with Torm, who summoned Gabe and my characters from who-knows-where, telling us all that we were being sent to seek out this powerful amulet, and teleported us all away to a tiny village.

This is where I got to help Gabe learn some good basics of roleplaying, including talking to NPCs, not breaking everything you see in hopes that money comes out, and not killing people for their stuff. Once we prepared everything and looked over the map of this strange island, we set off for the X marked on the map that none of the villagers seemed to be able to read.

Soon, we found ourselves in a series of ambushes by demons in the forest, of all kinds. While much weaker than their standard version, they still packed a wollop. Gabe managed to down two of them, cleaving them in half while learning the power of Raging. The session ended mid-combat with me unconcious with two death-saving throws failed, and us surrounded by demons.

I’m looking forward to the next session! Gabe and I both had a great time, enjoyed the other players at the table, and are looking forward to the games to come!
