Local Warhammer Player Schedules One Game For Entire Edition
Area Warhammer player Matt Kennedy confirmed Tuesday that he has officially scheduled his one game of the current edition, marking the first time he will roll dice since late 2019.
“I’m excited,” Kennedy said, carefully removing shrink wrap from a rulebook already halfway replaced by errata. “I really want to experience this edition the way it was meant to be played.”
Sources confirm Kennedy purchased the core book on release day, assembled a new army “for the fresh rules,” and read approximately 63% of the main rule section before life intervened.
“I’ve got kids now,” Kennedy explained. “And a job. And I promised my wife I wouldn’t start another army.”
The edition launched 19 months ago.
Kennedy’s opponent, long-time friend Aaron Klein, says they have been trying to schedule the match since “around the time of the second balance dataslate.”
“We were almost locked in last spring,” Klein said. “Then the points changed.”
Experts note that Kennedy’s play pattern is common among hobbyists who follow Warhammer release cycles closely enough to be emotionally invested, but not closely enough to understand what Devastating Wounds does this week.
“I like to let the meta settle,” Kennedy explained, scrolling through three separate apps to determine which version of his faction rules is current. “I don’t want to jump in too early.”
According to analysts, the edition has now undergone:
-
Two major FAQs
-
Four balance updates
-
A mission pack refresh
-
A codex that invalidated the index
-
A rumor cycle for the next edition
When asked whether he feels pressure to play more often, Kennedy shook his head.
“No, I’m good with one solid game per edition,” he said confidently. “It keeps it special.”
Klein confirmed that the long-awaited game is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., pending no further rule clarifications.
At 10:42 a.m. Saturday morning, Games Workshop released a new FAQ adjusting core mechanics in what company representatives described as “a minor wording update.”
Kennedy and Klein spent the first hour of their scheduled game debating whether the clarification applied retroactively to a stratagem printed in a codex that technically predates the current mission pack.
They ultimately agreed to “just play it how we think it works.”
Turn two began at approximately 2:37 p.m.
The game concluded early after Kennedy realized he had been using last month’s points values.
“Honestly, I just wanted to push painted models around,” he said, carefully packing them away. “Maybe I’ll get another game in before the new edition drops.”
Industry insiders confirmed that teaser art for the next edition is expected within weeks.
Kennedy has set aside money to pre-order the limited launch box.
