MaxMinis Armies for Old World

The MaxMinis line of miniatures are a fantastic bargain, and can get you a complete army for Old World in a single swoop. Today, I want to take a look at various armies they have, how many points they add up to (without any extras added in), and how close they get you to 2k points. None of this is paid, I was just looking at these lists, and realizing how many points there were here for so little money.

Oasis Mercenaries

This army is best represented by the Empire. If you play then as a Renegades Crown army, you lose the Flagellants and the War Wagon, and only get to about 1600 points. On the other hand, if you go Empire, you can’t take the Giant. So it’s a trade-off.

Here’s what I’ve worked out for an Empire army without any kind of extra magic items or upgrades at all. I don’t even have command triads in the units:

70 – Captain of the Empire, Battle Standard Bearer, Light Armour
90 – General of the Empire, General, Light Armour
60 – Master Mage, Wizard Level 1, Battle Magic
210 – 10 Empire Knights, Great Weapon
120 – 20 Free Company Militia
140 – 20 State Missile Troops, Crossbow
160 – 20 State Missile Troops, Handgun
240 – 40 State Troops, Thrusting Spear
220 – 20 Empire Greatswords
125 – Great Cannon
140 – Empire War Wagons
260 – 20 Flagellants
93 – 3 Imperial Ogres, Light Armour

That gets you up to 1928 points, or more plainly, a full 2k points once you add any kind of magic items, command triads, or anything else. The army is 200 bucks, so that’s incredibly inexpensive for an Araby army.

Goblin Army

The goblin army is, by its very nature, meant to be a horde army, so we’re not getting up to 2k with this list. Instead, we’re getting a solid 1500 points that you could then add 1-2 more units or maybe a giant to to get you close, then add upgrades to get to a full 2k points.

145 – Goblin Oddnob, Giant Wolf, Wizard Level 3, Elementalism
60 – Goblin Warboss, General
70 – Goblin Warboss, Giant Wolf
130 – Night Goblin Oddnob, Wizard Level 3, Illusion
80 – 20 Goblin Mobs, Shortbow
120 – 40 Goblin Mobs, Shield
80 – 20 Goblin Mobs, Thrusting Spear, Shield
100 – 10 Goblin Wolf Rider Mobs, Shield
100 – 10 Goblin Wolf Rider Mobs, Shortbow
80 – 20 Night Goblin Mobs, Shield, Netters
45 – Goblin Bolt Throwas
45 – Goblin Bolt Throwas
53 – Goblin Wolf Chariots, 2x Giant Wolf
53 – Goblin Wolf Chariots, 2x Giant Wolf
53 – Goblin Wolf Chariots, 2x Giant Wolf
294 – 6 River Troll Mobs
• 1x River Troll
• 1x River Troll
• 1x River Troll
• 1x River Troll
• 1x River Troll
• 1x River Troll

All in all, not too bad. There’s a LOT of Core choices there. Only 200 bucks is still quite a steal.

Dwarf Army

The Dwarfs are even fewer points, but also, a lot less expensive!

50 – Dwarf Engineer
125 – King, General
85 – Thane, Battle Standard Bearer
320 – 40 Dwarf Warriors
180 – 20 Quarrellers
200 – 20 Thunderers
100 – Cannon
100 – Cannon
100 – Cannon

That only comes out to 1200 points, but also, it’s only 125 dollars for the army, so 2 of these boxes will get you up to well more than 2k points, for only slightly more than the armies above.

Ogres Army

I know a lot less about Ogre armies, so I was able to come up with something from the list, but there are a few models missing from their list of models in the box.

110 – Bruiser, Light Armour
105 – Butcher, Wizard Level 1, Battle Magic
110 – Firebelly, Wizard Level 1, Elementalism
115 – Hunter
350 – Tyrant, Light Armour, General, Thundertusk
48 – 24 Gnoblar Fighters
156 – 4 Ironguts
186 – 6 Ogre Bulls
85 – 5 Sabretusk Packs
256 – 4 Mournfang Cavalry, Light Armour
138 – 3 Yhetees

You’re looking at more than 1600 points, and I KNOW there’s even more points in that box, so I have no doubt you can get up to 2k points.

Orc Army

Gotta be honest, this is your worst value, with 900 points. It’s offset by the fact that it’s one of the smaller, 125 dollar boxes.

83 – Orc Bigboss, Heavy Armour, Battle Standard Bearer
115 – Orc Warboss, Heavy Armour, Shield, General
65 – Orc Weirdboy, Wizard Level 1, Battle Magic
100 – 20 Orc Mobs, Warbow, Light Armour
120 – 20 Orc Mobs, Thrusting Spear, Light Armour
100 – 20 Orc Mobs, Light Armour
100 – 20 Orc Mobs, Light Armour
75 – 5 Orc Boar Boy Mobs, Light Armour
147 – 3 River Troll Mobs

You don’t even get up to the full 500 points for core that you need. However, if you combined this box with the Goblin box, you’ll get a full army, easily.

Elf Army

This army’s really cool, a desert elf army, perhaps a group of high elves who have settled on the shores of the deserts of Araby.

As High Elves, we can get them up to 1600 points, but probably more, since it seems like some of these units can be upgraded a LOT.

80 – Mage, Wizard Level 1, Battle Magic
80 – Mage, Wizard Level 1, Battle Magic
95 – Noble, Light Armour, Battle Standard Bearer
130 – Prince, Light Armour, General
200 – 20 Elven Archers
180 – 20 Elven Spearmen
230 – 10 Silver Helms
140 – 10 Shadow Warriors
75 – Tiranoc Chariot
280 – 20 White Lions of Chrace, Valour of Ages
80 – Eagle-Claw Bolt Thrower
80 – Eagle-Claw Bolt Thrower

It ALSO feels like you could run this army as Dark Elves, which would look like this:

130 – Dark Elf Dreadlord, Light Armour, General
95 – Dark Elf Master, Light Armour, Battle Standard Bearer
80 – Khainite Assassin
80 – Khainite Assassin
80 – Khainite Assassin
75 – Sorceress, Wizard Level 1, Illusion
75 – Sorceress, Wizard Level 1, Illusion
220 – 20 Black Ark Corsairs, Additional Hand Weapon
220 – 20 Dark Elf Crossbowmen
160 – 20 Dark Elf Warriors
160 – 10 Dark Riders
150 – 10 Har Ganeth Executioners
85 – Scourgerunner Chariots
220 – 20 Witch Elves
80 – Reaper Bolt Thrower
80 – Reaper Bolt Thrower
340 – 20 Sisters of Slaughter

This list is more than 2200 points, and that’s before you’re giving them any upgrades. That’s pretty impressive!

That’s all I’ve got for the day. Max minis also has a lot of standard fantasy armies where all the models are halflings, so that’s fun, and you’ll likely see the same results.
