Player Says Character Is “Not a Murderhobo,” Immediately Commits Arson

A Dungeons & Dragons player’s insistence that his character was “deeply moral” and “absolutely not a murderhobo” was called into question Friday night after he immediately set a building on fire.

The incident occurred less than ten minutes into the session, shortly after the party encountered a locked warehouse believed to be connected to a larger mystery. Rather than investigate further, the player suggested “creating a distraction,” which witnesses confirmed involved oil, a torch, and very little hesitation.

“It wasn’t violence,” the player explained. “It was problem-solving.”

According to the GM, the warehouse was occupied, structurally important, and located in a densely populated area. These details were revealed moments after the fire began. The party responded by leaving the scene “before things got complicated.”

Other players expressed confusion, noting that the same character had previously refused to steal from an NPC on ethical grounds. “I thought we were doing a slow-burn investigation,” one said. “Now we’re fugitives.”

The player defended the action as being “in character,” citing the character’s backstory and a personal code that apparently does not address property damage. When asked if this behavior might affect the campaign’s tone, the player replied that consequences “make things more interesting.”

The GM confirmed the fire will have long-term ramifications, including increased guard presence and at least one future villain who “remembers this.”

At press time, the player was drafting a speech about how his character “really hates senseless violence.”
