Solo RPG Journal Abandoned After Player Has Feelings
A solo tabletop role-playing journal was quietly abandoned this week after its player experienced what sources described as “unexpected and inconvenient emotions.”
The journal, which had been maintained consistently for several weeks, documented the adventures of a lone character traveling through a melancholic, procedurally generated setting. Early entries focused on exploration, atmospheric prompts, and light introspection. The tone shifted abruptly midway through a recent session.
“I thought I was just answering prompts,” the player said. “Then suddenly I was thinking about regret.”
According to the journal’s final entry, the character made a small but meaningful decision involving loss, memory, and the passage of time. The player reportedly paused, closed the notebook, and did not reopen it.
Friends familiar with solo RPGs confirmed this is not uncommon. “You go in expecting vibes,” one said. “Then a sentence hits you wrong and now you’re re-evaluating your life.”
The player admitted they had planned to continue the campaign, but described the emotional weight as “something I didn’t schedule for.” Attempts to resume play were postponed after the journal was described as “still looking at me.”
Despite the abrupt end, the player expressed no regrets. “It did exactly what it was supposed to do,” they said. “I just wasn’t ready for it to do it that well.”
At press time, the journal remained on a shelf, marked with a sticky note reading, “Maybe later.”
The player has since started a new solo game described as “much lighter,” though early notes suggest it is already “asking questions.”
